A Tribute to Regular Coffee

I realize that I have been paying homage to flavored espresso drinks and non-coffee drinks for the most part. But what about the basics? What about those coffee containers all the way on the other side of Java City?

For the most part they stay the same but usually one of the flavors is switched out each month. The three flavors this month French Vanilla, Utopian Blend, Decaf Espresso Valeroso. Each coffee has two tones describing it. For the French Vanilla it is smooth and delicious. The Utopian Blend is hearty and spice. The Decaf Espresso Valeroso is spicy and complex. I suppose the last one is just so good that it is difficult to describe. :) By ordering a coffee you can save over a dollar per cup. And if you MUST have something caramel or hazelnut then add a flavor shot for only $.79! By ordering a regular coffee twice a week rather than a espresso drink you can save about $3.00! And believe me I know what it is like to have all your dine money disappear from frequenting Java City.

Also another thing I respect about Java City is that is sells Fair Trade products. And this month, October, is World Fair Trade Month! So you know that the delicious coffee you are drinking was traded fairly and has been grown in fields where the workers are treated fairly. And to that I raise my mug of French Vanilla coffee!

Fall Flavors Fail

I'll come right out and say it: I do not like the "warm" flavors of the two new fall coffee drinks. I decided I would try both flavors the pumpkin latte and the apple caramel javalanche. Bleh. I have never liked like the flavors even as candle scents; so I was not too hopeful while trying them in liquid form.

First, I decided to try the apple caramel javalanche since the beautiful weather permitted. As many things, the drink did not look as appetizing as the picture in Java City. I took a sip. My mouth felt dry with the tartness and then the overpowering sweetness of the caramel. I took a few more sips before disposing of the drink in a nearby trashcan. I later purchased a Lemon Italian Soda to rinse the taste out of my mouth.

Next day, it was time to try the pumpkin latte. I had been avoiding it even before I tried the apple caramel javalanche. I don’t like pumpkin flavored foods. I like carving pumpkins…that is about it though. I bought a small, pumpkin latte and bottled water (as a precaution). Maybe I was setting up the pumpkin latte for failure but that is what it was--a failure. I took only two sips before throwing it away.

So these are only my subjective thoughts on the fall flavors. Not a fan. I am a fan; however, of the winter flavors…bring on the peppermint white mocha!!!
